Let's swan about

When I was first looking at Crate Paper Bloom collection, I thought...swan paper?  How would you use that?  And swan embellishments? What do they represent??  Not long after, I remembered that we had been for a ride in the swan boat when we went to Masterton so I was super excited to use it!

I decided to use the scallops again; I had already used this paper for a double spread layout and decided this would be so cute if I used the greens and blues to make it look like waves, then used the swan paper as my background paper.  Ain't it crazy!  This was such a fun layout to make, and it's awesome to be able to use things that otherwise would stay in the stash.  I did actually use swans on the double spread layout I created as well (totally not related to swans), so I think they are almost all used up.  Hopefully there is another one left for my pocket pages!

You & Me

The second collection by Paige Evans, Pink Paislee Take Me Away has a mix of brights, softs, girly and more masculine so it's a fab collection.  I often find that I change what I am doing halfway through a layout and this was one of those days. I started off with completely different photos and a different plan altogether, expecting to have a reasonably bright multiphoto layout.  I did decide quite early that I wanted to use my heart dies again, I've been into punching and die cutting at the moment for some reason!

I chose Paper 1 to cut my hearts out as it has a lovely purple ombre (tragically cutting into the cutaparts on the reverse) and I wanted to put those on the page fading up the page.
But once I had cut my hearts, I just could not settle on a background paper that felt right with my photo. After I eventually chose the lovely woodgrain of Paper 8 and stitched the hearts on, I felt oops...this is just not right with my photos.  I had pulled another photo out that I really liked and planned on using with Take Me Away so I thought what the heck, lets use that.

You may well think I went overboard on the hearts as I not only used the die cut hearts but used almost every beautiful pearl heart from the Foam Phrase Thickers.  I also used You & Me from the same pack to create my title.  It did seem a little extravagant but they really make a statement without being too overwhelming.

To balance the page, I added a cluster on the right and added some word stickers from Cocoa Vanilla Love Always.  I also added some word stickers on the right side with one of the cute paper clips from the collection.

I wanted to add a few pops of yellow about the layout to tie in with the photograph, so matted the photo on the yellow paper and pulled a yellow scallop from my stash.

The other photos I planned to put on this page are currently waiting a new layout.  Hopefully they make it onto a page soon!

Ready Set Go

I love Crate Paper Cool Kid collection, it's full of the bright colours I love and has so many fun embellishments.  Though it has been marketed as a boys range, there is a lot of stuff in there that I plan on using for my little girl rather that the wee lad because she is much more into bugs and dinosaurs and super heros than he ever was.  However, for my first 12x12 layout, I did a couple of photos of my two boys at stock cars as I had just finished pocket pages for the other photos.

I had put a challenge up on The Paper Teapot facebook group to scraplift someone that is an inspiration so I chose to scraplift Jen Schow as she is just awesome.  If you haven't checked out her YouTube, then you should and you can find it here.  This is the layout I scraplifted.  I really liked how she used triangles all over which is a shape I hardly ever use and I also really loved the softness of the vellum over the photo.  I also liked the minimal embellishment clusters.

Well, tho I tried to emulate Jen, my layout is brighter and has a bunch more embellishments, and I totally didn't even do the triangles on the photos.  Despite this, I still love how it turned out.  My husband still has to journal on it for me which will make it even more special.

My favourite things in this collection are the wood veneers (which are LAYERED!), the delightful puffy thickers and I am really loving the cutesy font used throughout the collection!
